Redesign

I'm in the midst of redesigning my website, as some of you may have noticed.

I'm a very changeable person. I had just redesigned my site back in January, and then got bored and yanked it down in hopes of designing a new one. There wasn't anything wrong with the old one, aside from a feeling I had that it just wasn't really reflective of me. Hell, it was boring, let's be honest lol.

I've had a personal website since 1997 or 1998. That was back in the day where there was no Facebook or Twitter. If you wanted a presence online, you designed it yourself. My website had all kinds of things - surveys about me, memes, lists of favourite things, all kinds of information on divination, from astrology to crystals to tarot. I was really into that stuff back then and it was all over my site. I also had a photo gallery, writing galleries, a personal blog, an "ego" page where I listed whatever suited my fancy (I'm big on lists). Since then my site devolved into this professional thing designed to highlight me as a writer. The problem with that now is twofold - I'm both struggling with my identity as a writer, and missing the days where I wasn't worried about coming across professionally, but just wanted a cool site that reflected who I was.

So I'm trying to do that again - and I'm totally stalled. Sad, when you think about it. I've literally considered taking the files from my old website and using them as a last resort.

I like humour. I like whimsy. I want my site to have some of that. I love reading Lisa Gardner's forewards in her book because of their humour, I love reading The Oatmeal. My favourite parts of DVDs are always the gag reels. You would never know any of that looking at my bland professional sites.

It's taking me forever to try and find some of that humour for my own site. So far I'm at zilch lol. The design is pretty much what you see on my main page at the moment. I have no navigation, no idea what I'm going to post. Probably a link to my book. Probably a photo gallery since I like taking pictures (no promises on how good they'll be). Probably a guestbook. Probably some links. I'm sure a bio - but I don't want it to be a dumb, boring bio.

As for the identity struggling writer part - that's for another post.
